About Us
Learn more about the Roll Back Antimicrobial Resistance Initiative(RBA Initiative) and our mission to contain antimicrobial resistance(AMR) and make a positive impact on the world
Who We Are
The Roll Back Antimicrobial Resistance (RBA) Initiative is a non-governmental organization dedicated to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR), headquartered in Dodoma, Tanzania. With an international reach, the RBA Initiative has emerged as a pioneering force in the field of AMR, setting a precedent both within Africa and globally for its specialized focus on addressing this critical health issue.
The RBA Initiative promotes the rational use of antimicrobials, facilitates the dissemination of knowledge about AMR to raise awareness and understanding, conducts research on AMR, and encourages behavioral changes essential to containing AMR. It also promotes infection prevention strategies and effective sanitation and hygiene practices. The RBA Initiative engages diverse stakeholders, including community members, academia, schools, educational institutions, researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, journalists, and individuals across various sectors, spanning from health to agriculture.
The RBA Initiative’s approach to public and community engagement is considered an inspiring example of creative, community-focused support on a global scale. One of its interventions, the Roll Back AMR School Clubs, was cited as a positive example of community-focused support during the UN High-Level Interactive Dialogue on AMR on April 29, 2021.
Through its strategic interventions, collaborative partnerships, and proactive efforts, the RBA Initiative continues to play a significant role in safeguarding the effectiveness of antimicrobials and protecting public health against the escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance. The RBA Initiative was the first local non-governmental organization dedicated exclusively to combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to be founded in an African country.
